Welcome to The Sensory Score

Travel without the sensory surprises.

The Sensory Score was built to make travel more predictable, comfortable, and accessible for everyone. Whether you are neurodivergent, sensitive to noise or light, managing PTSD, or simply looking for a restful environment, finding a hotel that meets your sensory needs shouldn't be a guessing game.

Why Sensory Friendly Travel Matters

Standard hotel reviews focus on price, location, and luxury, but they rarely mention the hum of an HVAC system, harsh fluorescent lighting, scented lobby diffusers, or scratchy linens. For many travelers, these details can make or break a stay.

The Sensory Score provides a dedicated space where travelers can share detailed, objective feedback about the sensory and acoustic environments of hotels worldwide.

Powered by Community

The Sensory Score is a crowdsourced community. Every review helps another traveler plan a predictable, sensory-friendly journey with confidence.

Our Story

Travel Shouldn’t Be a Sensory Surprise

Like many meaningful projects, The Sensory Score was born from a personal experience.

It started on a family holiday. We had booked a hotel that promised a relaxing escape, a chance to unwind and recharge. But as a neurodivergent traveler, I quickly realized that "relaxing" mean different things to different people.

Instead of a peaceful sanctuary, the stay became an exercise in constant sensory navigation:

  • An unpredictable and unusual check-in process after a long flight

  • Strange scents throughout the building

  • Bright fluorescent lighting and scratchy, uncomfortable bed linens

What was meant to be a restorative trip turned into an exhausting effort to manage sensory overload.

Wishing for a better way, a simple thought took hold:

"I wish there was a place I could look up a hotel's sensory environment beforehand...a platform where real travelers rate noise, lighting, scent, and texture so I know what to expect."

From a Personal Wish to a Community Platform

We created this platform to replace uncertainty with predictability. By crowdsourcing objective, sensory-focused feedback across five key categories, Noise, Light, Scent, Texture, and Staff Interaction, we empower travelers to find accommodations where they can truly feel comfortable, supported, and at ease.
